In a surprise move, the National Village Cricket Club competition has allowed Puckering to take the place of recently ousted Ucked Town. Ucked were forced to retire from the competition after complaints that, according to their name, they were a town not a village. In their defence, Ucked claimed that the name resulted from a fourteenth century charter, and that with a population numbering 137, excluding sheep, they were well within the definition of a village. Still, Ucked’s loss was the Irregulars gain and the team took advantage of the opportunity to win a close game against Fordam Hills.

Despite the normal sterling bowling performance from Rachel Travers, Fordam were still able to amass a decent total of 148. The bulk of the runs came from a rapid fire 72 from Holding. Promoted to open Burns failed for one of the few times this season, falling for only 12, and the total looked well beyond Puckering. Yet a patient 36 from Morcombe steadied the innings before Bolger shone like a fairly large full moon. Newly confident from his fitness regime, Bolger still declined the humble single, sending the ball to the boundary with laser-like precision. His 60 brought Puckering to the brink of victory before Walsham and Croft saw their side to a memorable win with some well taken singles.

The Village Idiot saw many a pint of Monk sunk in celebration of this famous victory! Puckering will play Old Busted in the next round.
