Poisoned PenThe Poisoned Pen

We thank our readers for their thoughts in the Lord of the Rings cast. It is possible, I suppose, that Sir Alex could make a passable Gandalf, but one rather wonders if he's not carrying more than a little baggage from that Star Wars comic strip. The Pen went a little further and had fun casting the rest of the crew: Anthony Hopkins as Saruman, perhaps with Cate Blanchet as Galadriel, Arnold Schwarzenegger as Boromir and Tom Hanks as Faramir. The rather pretty Meg Ryan makes a fine Eowyn and perhaps we could shrink Brian Blessed and have him play Gimli. For Wormtongue I rather fancied the 'Inconceivable' man from the Princess Bride. Who better than Anthony Andrews for Legolas?

It's come to the notice of the Pen that some British comedies are being exported across the Big Pond to entertain our American cousins. Only fair, I suppose. They did bring us Dukes of Hazard. Thank goodness they were not all re-done like Man about the House and Alf Garnett’s. Still we wondered what export you would rate the best of British.

If you’d like to share your opinion with the Pen you are permitted to write me an e-mail and I’ll have one of my lackeys read it. Who knows, maybe I’ll read it and respond.
