Who's at the Grange?
No word yet on the famous new resident of the Grange. Several vans have arrived in the last few weeks and sundry possessions, including a white piano, have been carried inside. Minne Smalls of the Post Office said she saw a large gentleman swaddled in a scarf last Thursday going into the house. However, Nigel Winters saw a buxom young lady carrying a small dog in the garden on Wednesday, so the mystery remains.

Bird Bath Burglaries
More crime erupted in Puckering last Thursday when in a series of daring raids, thieves made off with three bird baths from around the village. Sgt. Archer reports that there has been a substantial rise in garden thefts around the country, though Puckering had so far been unaffected.

Couple to Marry at Ground
Paul Gladstone, a winger with the Puckering Irregulars, will be getting married at the Irregulars ground in May. His new bride, Susan Arndale of West Bean, is not a football fan but has agreed to the wedding plans. "We wanted the vicar to dress in a ref's uniform but he wouldn't have any of it," said Paul. "I mean, it's fair enough really. You have to have some appreciation of tradition."

Rather than top hat and tails the men of the wedding party will be dressed in their football gear and boots. Susan is understood to be wearing a white Lang wedding dress. After the ceremony the couple plans to kick a ball though the goalposts to celebrate their union.

Village Comes to a Halt
Traffic came to a complete stop in Puckering last Saturday. Due to road works at the Puck Way, Herringbone Way intersection, a circle of cars built up though the High Street and down Newsom Lane. For nearly an hour there was complete gridlock, made worse by drivers leaving their cars and popping into the shops. With some help from a nimble bicycle-bound PC Johnes, police finally were able to clear the road.
